Nexus 2007

Nexus 2007 is a first-of-its-kind event, organised by The Digital Movement. It’s encouraging to see such events taking place amidst Singapore’s un-entrepreneurial landscape. What’s more heartening is that the organisers of this event are all under 25 years old! To pull off an event of this proportion is no mean logistical feat for a team of unversity-going kids. Kudos to the Digital Movement team! Let’s keep this momentum going~

Having said that, there was certainly room for improvement. Here’s my $0.02 worth:

1. Pick better moderators who can contribute effectively and build up chains of meaningful conversations, instead of jumping from point to point on their list of must-talk-abouts. Moderators who did not perform: Wilson Tan, Bernard Leong
2. Improve on robustness of internet connectivity. The choice of Campfirenow as a real-time feedback to panels is novel, but has limited effectiveness if people had trouble connecting.
3. Have participants write questions on slips of paper, or submit them via some online means. A queue system is inefficient when time is a rare commodity. The moderator and panel members can pick and choose which questions they want to respond to.
4. Allow local start-ups to have a small physical presence and showcase, similar to what was done at the sidelines towards the end of Geekout!.
5. Have more local representation and to share about their war stories – having Farzad and Bill was great, and Roberto certainly did a good job of giving the audience the local perspective. More local entrepreneurs on stage in future editions of this show would give the event a lot more ‘local flavour’.
6. Last but not least, hold it again! Let’s try to make Nexus an annual affair, and have smaller baby Nexuses each quarter or something. The momentum needs to be kept up, and the masses need to be exposed and educated.
